At Motcombe School we aim to give all children opportunities to develop their knowledge and understanding of the nature of religious beliefs and practices and the importance of these in the lives of the believers. We give children the opportunity to explore aspects of human experiences that give rise to spiritual awareness.

Religious Education is provided in accordance with the East Sussex Agreed Syllabus for RE.

Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural Education

At Motcombe, we recognise that the personal development of pupils, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve. We therefore aim to provide an education that provides children with opportunities to explore and develop their own values and beliefs, spiritual awareness, high standards of personal behaviour, a positive caring attitude towards other people, an understanding of their social and cultural traditions and an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures

Parents do have the right to withdraw their child from RE (after consultation with the Headteacher) but we hope that by sending your child to our school you will understand and be in empathy with our provision.

The RE curriculum at Motcombe has taken many of the content and principles of ‘Mastery’ in mathematics.  We have developed a curriculum which ensures children spend longer being taught the common features and skills in order to have a more coherent RE curriculum and therefore be able to develop mastery in the subject.
