Science is a core subject within the National Curriculum at Key Stage 1 and is a part of the Understanding the World section of the Early Years curriculum, where we encourage the children to ask questions about the world around them, explore scientific concepts in a practical way and explain their observations, experiments and investigations.
The science programme supports the children to appreciate and be curious about the world. Where possible we provide first hand experiences to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of science and work in a scientific way. The children learn to explore and investigate, to ask questions, share ideas and seek solutions about what they observe, hear, feel and experience. They are also taught to communicate what they have discovered in a variety of ways.
The school is well equipped for science and most of the work is practically based involving adult and child-led investigations. Children follow a topic based approach which includes subjects such as animals, materials, changing states, life cycles and plants.
