Uniform
Over recent years, many schools have begun exploring more flexible and comfortable uniform options that allow children to move freely throughout the school day. We know that children spend a large portion of their time sitting, learning, playing, and participating in different activities—often in clothing that isn’t designed with movement or comfort in mind.
More information about an Always Active uniform can be found at https://activeuniform.org/ including a humorous video that illustrates this really well.
We are pleased to confirm that Motcombe School will now be adopting the Always Active Uniform across the whole school from September 2026 which will be worn every day. This means our uniform will no longer consist of school trousers, skirts, pinafore dresses, polo shirts and school shoes.

To support this transition, the school will be providing every child with an Always Active sports top. This will become part of the school uniform and will be suitable for outdoor learning, playtimes, and general daily use.
Please contact the school to find out how to claim your free Always Active sports top.
👕 What Families Will Need to Provide
To ensure consistency across the school while maintaining flexibility and comfort, we ask that families provide the following items as part of the Always Active Uniform:
✅ Core Clothing
- A plain blue or white T‑shirt (not polo shirt)
- Dark coloured sports shorts, leggings, or tracksuit bottoms
- Trainers suitable for active use, with good support and grip (ideally with Velcro rather than laces)
✅ General Expectations
- Clothing should be practical, comfortable, and suitable for movement
- Items should be plain (not patterned)
- All items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name

Why We Are Using This Approach
We believe this new uniform can support children in:
- feeling comfortable and ready for movement
- becoming more active throughout the day
- participating more confidently in PE and play
- focusing better during learning
- having gender-neutral clothing
- managing the school day with fewer clothing related barriers
- gaining a sense of belonging
We believe this new uniform can support families by:
- Being more cost effective (no need for separate PE kit)
- Easy to wash and quick to dry uniform
- Easier mornings with one consistent outfit (No need to manage “PE days” vs “uniform days”)
- Not needing to buy school shoes or cardigan/sweatshirts

🎯 Our Aim
At Motcombe School, our aim is to ensure that every child feels:
- Comfortable throughout the day
- Confident to take part in all activities
- Ready to learn and be active at any time
The Always Active Uniform helps remove barriers to movement, supports wellbeing, and allows children to fully engage in school life.
🤝 Thank You for Your Support
We would like to thank all families for their support during this process.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Children in Foundation Stage will need a pair of wellies in school. We spend a lot of time playing and learning outside on the patio, in the Forest Zone and in the Mud Zone and we go outside in all weathers, if children want to.
Children must bring a water bottle to school each day.
Please make sure that all clothes, wellies, water bottles and book bags are clearly labelled with your child’s name.
